Hyderabad, July 10 (Maxim News): The Attapur Police have arrested a habitual chain snatcher involved in multiple attention diversion theft cases and recovered four stolen gold chains linked to different offences.
Three other accused connected to the organised theft network remain absconding.
The arrested accused has been identified as Hathakade Vishal, 25, a band master and resident of Mallepally, Hyderabad. Police identified the absconding accused as Ravi, Jahangir and Shyam Sunder.
According to police, the accused were part of an organised gang that targeted unsuspecting commuters at busy bus stops by creating distractions before stealing gold chains. Investigators said the gang primarily operated around the Aramghar bus stand to fund their lavish lifestyle and unlawful financial activities.
Attention Diversion Theft at Aramghar Bus Stand
Police said the case relates to an incident that occurred on October 16, 2025, when complainant Gajula Sathish Kumar, a businessman from Bandlaguda Jagir, was travelling on a bus near Aramghar.
As the victim attempted to get down from the bus near Pillar No. 143, the accused allegedly surrounded him. While two members blocked his movement, the others pushed him to divert his attention.
During the commotion, Vishal allegedly unclasped and stole the victim’s 1.25-tola gold chain before the group fled the scene.
A case was registered at Attapur Police Station under Sections 318(4), 305(a), and 111 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Four Gold Chains Recovered
During the investigation, police used technical evidence and intelligence to trace the accused. Following his arrest, officers recovered four stolen gold chains connected to different theft cases registered at Attapur Police Station.
The recovered property includes:
One gold chain weighing 9.5 grams linked to Crime No. 871/2025.
One gold chain weighing 5 grams linked to Crime No. 692/2025.
One gold chain weighing 4.8 grams linked to Crime No. 684/2025.
One gold chain weighing 10.4 grams linked to Crime No. 544/2025.
Police said efforts are underway to trace and arrest the remaining three accused.

The operation was carried out under the supervision of Rajendranagar Zone DCP S. Sreenivas, ACP T. Srinivas, Attapur SHO K. Nageswara Rao, Detective Inspector B. Raju Naik, and the Attapur Police team.
Senior police officials appreciated the investigation team’s efforts in solving multiple property offences and recovering stolen valuables.
They also announced that the officers involved would be suitably rewarded for their work.
