Hyderabad, July 14: Colleges across Telangana are expected to remain closed today following a bandh call given by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), which is demanding the release of pending fee reimbursement and scholarship dues.
The student organisation has launched the protest, alleging that the State government has not cleared approximately Rs. 12,000 crore in pending fee reimbursement and scholarship payments. According to ABVP, the delay is affecting nearly 20 lakh students belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Backward Classes (BC), Economically Backward Classes (EBC), and minority communities.
ABVP has called for a bandh covering institutions from junior colleges to universities across the State. As a result, many colleges are expected to remain shut today, while student organisations are likely to hold demonstrations at educational institutions.
The organisation claims that delayed reimbursements are placing a financial burden on students and educational institutions. It has urged the State government to immediately release the pending funds and address student welfare issues.
Meanwhile, educational institutions are monitoring the situation and taking precautionary measures based on local conditions. Students have been advised to check with their respective colleges for updates regarding classes and academic schedules.
The Telangana government has not yet issued an official statement on the latest bandh call or the pending reimbursement claims.
