Hyderabad, July 13 (Maxim News) : DoT Hyderabad Unit organised a Security Conference on Monday to strengthen inter-agency coordination against cyber fraud and telecom-related crimes.
The Department of Telecommunications AP LSA brought together law enforcement, banking, and telecom stakeholders at a single platform. Anand Khare, Director General Telecom, inaugurated the event and addressed the gathering.
According to Anand Khare, DoT has made major progress in protecting citizens from cyber-enabled financial fraud over the past two years. He said DoT disconnected over 5 crore fraudulent mobile connections during this period. Furthermore, the department recovered more than 12 lakh lost and stolen mobile handsets. Additionally, DoT prevented cyber frauds worth over Rs 1,800 crore through its Financial Fraud Risk Indicator framework.
Moreover, DoT AP LSA presented its own achievements at the conference. The unit busted 11 illegal telecom and cybercrime setups during FY 2025-26. Officials said this is one of the highest performances across all LSAs in the country. In addition, AP LSA recovered approximately 2.04 lakh lost and stolen mobile handsets. This makes it the top-performing unit in the country for handset recovery.

Furthermore, V.C. Sajjanar, Commissioner of Police Hyderabad, addressed the gathering and highlighted Operation Octopus 3.0. He said the operation targets cyber fraud ecosystems and organised telecom-enabled financial crimes. He stressed the need for seamless coordination between law enforcement, DoT, banks, and telecom operators to tackle evolving cyber threats effectively.
Additionally, Arvind Babu, Deputy Commissioner of Police Cyber Crimes Hyderabad, presented on Fraud-Enabled Networks and Ghost SIM Networks. He highlighted emerging trends and new investigative approaches to combat organised cybercrime. As a result, the conference gave officers and stakeholders a clear picture of how Ghost SIM networks operate and how to detect them.
Meanwhile, the Reserve Bank of India shared initiatives to strengthen the financial sector’s resilience against cyber fraud. The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau presented on the application of Artificial Intelligence in the telecom sector. These presentations covered how AI helps enhance cyber defence capabilities in real-time threat scenarios.
On the sidelines of the conference, Anand Khare inaugurated a Network Security Laboratory at DoT AP LSA Hyderabad. This is the first such laboratory within the DoT across India. The lab focuses on capacity building, threat analysis, and demonstrating cyber security solutions. A live demonstration of the lab’s capabilities also took place during the event.
The conference concluded with all stakeholders reaffirming their commitment to share intelligence and leverage emerging technologies. They pledged to strengthen coordinated efforts to build a secure digital communications ecosystem for India. Senior officers from CID, DoT Headquarters, SBI, and all major telecom service providers also attended the event.
