Hyderabad, July 18: Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy on Saturday said India is rapidly emerging as a global semiconductor hub under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighting the Centre’s investments and incentives to strengthen the electronics manufacturing ecosystem.
He said the SEMICON 2.0 programme would drive significant growth in the semiconductor and electronics sectors across the country.
In a statement, Kishan Reddy said the Centre plans to invest ₹1.27 lakh crore in the electronics and semiconductor sectors over the next 12 years through the SEMICON 2.0 programme.
He added that the Mobile Manufacturing Promotion Scheme (MPMS), with an outlay of ₹62,500 crore, is expected to transform India’s manufacturing sector.
The Union Minister also outlined the Centre’s financial support for semiconductor infrastructure in Telangana.
According to him, the Central Government has sanctioned ₹724 crore for Electronics Manufacturing Clusters (EMCs) in the State, including:
- ₹252 crore for the Greenfield EMC project at E City and Fab City.
- ₹139 crore for the Maheshwaram Greenfield EMC.
- ₹75 crore for a Common Facility Centre in Hyderabad.
- ₹258 crore for the EMC project at Divitipally in Mahabubnagar district.
Kishan Reddy further said the Centre has provided incentives exceeding ₹1,000 crore to electronics industries in Telangana under SEMICON 2.0.
He said the programme is expected to create greater opportunities for establishing mobile phone manufacturing units and component manufacturing facilities in the State, strengthening Telangana’s role in India’s semiconductor ecosystem. (Maxim News)
