Hyderabad, July 26: Telangana Cyber Security Bureau Director V. C. Sajjanar has warned people to stay alert against cyber fraudsters attempting to cheat beneficiaries following the commencement of the Earnest Money Deposit (EMD) process for the Indiramma Housing Scheme.
Sajjanar cautioned that fraudsters may make phone calls posing as government officials and falsely claim that beneficiaries must pay an EMD of ₹10,000 to secure an Indiramma house.
He said cyber criminals may pressure people by claiming that the payment deadline is about to expire and that they would lose the opportunity if the amount is not paid immediately.
The senior police officer warned that scammers are exploiting public trust in government welfare schemes to extort money.
He advised citizens not to download unknown links or APK files received through WhatsApp. He also warned against visiting fake websites designed to resemble official government portals to steal personal and banking information.
Sajjanar urged the public not to install remote access applications such as AnyDesk or TeamViewer at the request of unknown persons, as these apps can give fraudsters access to mobile devices and banking details.
He clarified that no government official or bank representative will ask for UPI PINs, OTPs or bank account details for refunds or scheme-related payments.
The officer advised people never to share Aadhaar details, bank account information or one time passwords with anyone.
He appealed to victims of cyber fraud to immediately call the national cybercrime helpline 1930 and lodge a complaint. He also urged them to report the incident to the nearest police station without delay.
