New Delhi, July 31: BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla has reportedly resigned from the Bharatiya Janata Party, citing personal reasons. According to reports, he submitted his resignation to the party leadership, although neither Poonawalla nor the BJP has made an official announcement confirming the development.
Poonawalla has served as one of the BJP’s prominent national spokespersons and regularly represented the party in television debates. He has consistently defended the party and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on various political issues.
Shehzad Poonawalla Resigns After Nearly Two Decades in Politics
Speaking about his political journey, Poonawalla said he had spent nearly 18 to 19 years in active politics and believed he had achieved his goals.
“I entered politics at a very young age and have completed almost 19 years. I think I have achieved what I wanted to do in politics. I first thought of quitting politics after Prime Minister Narendra Modi began his third term in 2024,” he said.
He added that he postponed his decision to continue working for the party during several important elections before finally deciding to step away from active politics.
Following the reports, Poonawalla updated the biography on his X account, describing himself as a lifelong follower of Prime Minister Modi. However, the updated profile does not mention the BJP. His Instagram profile, meanwhile, continues to identify him as the BJP’s national spokesperson.
The 38 year old lawyer began his political career with the Congress before becoming a rebel leader in 2017. He later joined the BJP and emerged as one of its prominent media faces.
As of now, the BJP has not issued any official statement regarding his reported resignation.
