Hyderabad, August 2: Three girl students of a Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) in Hanamkonda district allegedly scaled the hostel boundary wall and left the campus during the early hours of Sunday, claiming they could no longer stay in the hostel due to poor food quality and unhygienic conditions.
The incident occurred at the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya located on the outskirts of Mandaripet in Shayampet mandal.
According to reports, the students climbed over the hostel wall at around 2 a.m. and left the premises. After the school authorities discovered they were missing, staff members, police and the students’ parents launched a search operation.
The three students were traced on Sunday morning while hiding in bushes on the road leading to Gobindapur. Their parents later brought them back safely.
The students reportedly alleged that breakfast served at the hostel contained worms, the bathrooms were unhygienic and hostel authorities imposed harsh punishments for minor disciplinary issues, including waking up late. They claimed these conditions prompted them to leave the hostel.
Following the incident, parents reached the school and questioned the hostel management over the security lapse that allowed three students to leave the campus unnoticed during the night.
They also demanded action against those responsible for the alleged negligence in maintaining food quality, sanitation and hostel security.
The incident has sparked concern in the erstwhile Warangal district, with parents seeking a thorough inquiry into the allegations and improved facilities for students staying at the residential institution.
Authorities are expected to examine the students’ complaints and review hostel management and safety measures.
