Hyderabad, August 12 (Maxim News): The Bhupalapally district court has issued a fresh notice to former Telangana Chief Minister KCR in the Medigadda barrage case.
The case concerns the alleged irregularities and quality issues linked to the Medigadda Barrage of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme.
The court took the step after learning that the earlier notice sent to KCR had not reached him. Therefore, the court directed the district lawyer to ensure that the fresh notice gets properly served.
The court also adjourned the next hearing to September 9. The latest development has drawn attention because the case involves allegations related to one of Telangana’s major irrigation projects.
Medigadda barrage case moves ahead despite petitioner’s death
The Medigadda barrage case began after a private petition was filed by a person named Rajalingamurthy. The petition raised allegations of irregularities and construction quality concerns in the Medigadda Barrage.
The petitioner has since died. However, the Telangana High Court had earlier directed that the proceedings should continue despite his death.
As a result, the Bhupalapally district court has continued hearing the matter. The fresh notice to KCR now marks another development in the proceedings.
The Medigadda Barrage forms an important part of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme. The barrage faced serious structural concerns after several piers reportedly suffered subsidence in October 2023.
The issue later became a major political controversy in Telangana. Questions were raised over the design, construction, quality control and decision making linked to the Kaleshwaram project.
The Telangana government subsequently ordered inquiries into the project. Various agencies and commissions have examined different aspects of the alleged irregularities.
However, the court proceedings in the present matter relate specifically to the private complaint before the Bhupalapally district court. The fresh notice does not by itself establish criminal liability against KCR.
The court will consider the allegations and material placed before it during the proceedings. The next hearing on September 9 is expected to provide further clarity on the status of the case.
The latest development has also gained political significance because KCR headed the Telangana government when the Kaleshwaram project was developed and executed.
Meanwhile, the court has stressed proper service of the notice. The district lawyer must take steps to ensure that the notice reaches KCR in accordance with the court’s directions.
The proceedings will continue even though the original petitioner is no longer alive. This follows the earlier High Court direction allowing the case to proceed. (Maxim News)
