Hyderabad: Election authorities in Hyderabad will issue notices to 5.82 lakh voters whose details could not be mapped with electoral rolls prepared during the previous Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in 2002.
The unmapped voters account for 20.80% of the electorate across Hyderabad district’s 15 Assembly constituencies. The notices will be followed by a verification process to establish the eligibility of these voters.
Officials clarified that being unmapped with the 2002 electoral rolls does not automatically mean deletion from the voter list. Eligible voters will be given an opportunity to submit supporting documents and establish their eligibility.
Secunderabad Cantonment recorded the highest number of unmapped voters at nearly 66,450. It was followed by Jubilee Hills with 63,448 and Musheerabad with 58,320 voters.
Secunderabad recorded around 47,180 unmapped voters, while Amberpet had 47,100. Sanathnagar and Karwan recorded approximately 43,340 and 40,700 unmapped voters respectively.
Hyderabad SIR: Unmapped Voters to Face Verification
Among the mapped electors, around 7.98 lakh voters, or 28.5%, were self-mapped. Another 14.14 lakh voters, accounting for 50.5%, were mapped through progeny details.
Hyderabad District Election Officer and GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan said notices would be issued to voters whose present details could not be linked to the 2002 SIR rolls.
During verification, election officials will examine documents submitted by voters. They will also verify their residence and whereabouts during the period covered by the previous SIR.
The notice process could be followed by hearings. During these hearings, voters may be asked to provide supporting documents and explain their electoral history.
Officials said address changes, variations in names and discrepancies in old electoral records could make automated mapping difficult.
The exercise is aimed at ensuring that only eligible voters remain on the electoral rolls. At the same time, genuine voters will be given an opportunity to establish their eligibility before any further decision is taken.
