Hyderabad, August 16: Goshamahal Police apprehended 10 people during a raid on an alleged illegal card game in Begum Bazar early Sunday.
Police said they received credible information about a card game being organised at a house in Begum Bazar Chatri at around 12.45 am on August 16.
After securing the required permissions and mediators, police raided the premises. They found 10 people allegedly playing cards for cash stakes on the fourth floor.
Police said the participants had locked the premises and were conducting the game secretly. Shyam Sunder and Ghanshyam Das Karwa were allegedly facilitating the gambling activity.
Police Seize Cash, Cards and Hookah Material
Police seized ₹1.18 lakh in cash, a complete pack of 52 playing cards, casino style tokens and hookah material.
The seized hookah material included three hookah pots, coils and an electric stove. Police also seized other articles linked to the alleged gaming activity.
A case was registered as Crime No. 291/2026 under Sections 3 and 4 of the Telangana Gaming Act, Section 4 read with Section 21 of COTPA and Section 112(2) of the BNS.
Police said some of the accused had previously been involved in gaming, excise and other criminal cases. Notices under Section 35(3) of the BNSS were served on all 10 accused with proper acknowledgement.
Goshamahal Police appealed to citizens to stay away from illegal gambling, betting and card games involving monetary stakes.
Police also urged property owners not to allow their premises to be used for such activities. Citizens were asked to inform police about gambling or betting activities in their neighbourhoods.
