Hyderabad: Authorities have started demolishing the seven-storey building that collapsed in Anjaiahnagar, Gachibowli, on Saturday afternoon.
The collapse left two workers dead after they were trapped under the debris. Some residents of nearby buildings also suffered injuries in the incident.
Demolition Begins After Gachibowli Building Collapse
On Sunday, teams from the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation, HYDRAA and other government agencies began demolishing the damaged structure under police protection.
Officials deployed a JCB machine to pull down the remaining portions of the building. However, light rain in the area affected the demolition work.
Authorities said the building had allegedly been constructed without obtaining the required permissions.
The demolition was taken up after officials assessed the condition of the remaining structure and surrounding buildings.
Nearby Buildings Evacuated Over Safety Concerns
Occupants of neighbouring buildings that were damaged in the collapse were also asked to vacate their premises as a precautionary measure.
Officials said some of the surrounding structures were also reportedly constructed in violation of existing building regulations.
Students, working professionals and other residents were seen moving out with their belongings and shifting to alternative accommodation.
Police personnel have been deployed in the area to maintain security and prevent any untoward incident during the demolition.
The authorities are continuing to assess the safety of nearby structures and the circumstances surrounding the Gachibowli building collapse.
