Internet, August 30: Rockstar Games has released its most detailed look yet at Grand Theft Auto VI, showcasing Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, the sprawling Leonida world and several new gameplay features.
Titled Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look, the presentation was released on August 27, 2026. It runs for about 26 minutes and was captured entirely from the PlayStation 5 version.
Unlike earlier trailers, the latest footage focuses heavily on gameplay. It showcases driving, combat, police pursuits, robberies, exploration and activities across the open world.
The presentation highlights the partnership between Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos. Jason has a criminal background and previously served in the Army, while Lucia is recently released from prison and hopes to build a better future.
Their relationship is closely connected to the gameplay. Players can switch between Jason and Lucia during certain situations involving both characters.
One sequence shows Lucia driving while Jason fires at pursuing enemies. This suggests that character switching can play an active role during shared encounters rather than simply separating the two protagonists’ storylines.
The presentation opens with Jason and Lucia entering an apartment building to collect a package for Boobie Ike. The job quickly turns into a shootout after they encounter resistance.
Police arrive during the confrontation, forcing the pair to fight their way out and escape by vehicle. The sequence combines movement, gunplay, cover mechanics, driving and police pursuits.
Leonida offers more than Vice City
Vice City remains a major part of GTA 6, but Rockstar has shown that the game extends far beyond its urban areas.
Leonida, the fictional state inspired by Florida, features beaches, highways, rural roads, swamps, waterways, industrial zones and smaller communities.
The extended footage also showcases several water-based activities. These include swimming, boating, jet skiing, scuba diving, fishing, kayaking and airboat travel.
Players are also shown participating in basketball, dirt biking, street racing, parachuting, base jumping, clubbing, dancing, weightlifting and other recreational activities.
The presentation does not establish how deeply every activity will be developed in the final game. However, it confirms the wide range of activities Rockstar is building into Leonida.
Police pursuits and robberies
Police encounters also receive significant attention in the presentation. The footage suggests that clothing, vehicles and appearance could influence how suspects evade law enforcement.
Changing vehicles, hiding and altering a character’s appearance are shown during escape sequences. Masks and disguises also feature in the gameplay.
However, Rockstar has not yet provided a complete technical explanation of the wanted system. Therefore, the precise importance of each factor remains unclear.
Robberies and criminal activities continue to form the core of the game. Jason and Lucia are shown carrying out deliveries, thefts, robberies, criminal meetings and high-speed escapes.
The presentation also revisits the diner robbery that appeared in leaked development footage from 2022. The new footage features completed character models, environments, animation and lighting.
Combat includes shooting from cover, firing from moving vehicles and close-range hand-to-hand fighting. One sequence shows Lucia using her shoe during a close-quarters confrontation.
Life beyond missions
Rockstar is also highlighting activities that take place between major missions.
Jason and Lucia are shown at home, meeting other characters and spending time with members of their criminal circle. Crowded streets, nightlife venues, traffic, businesses and animals add activity to the open world.
The footage also confirms the return of Snapmatic, allowing players to take photographs within the game’s fictional social-media environment.
One small interaction shows Jason encountering a dog. The player appears able to pet, scold or study the animal, highlighting Rockstar’s focus on environmental interactions.
GTA 6 PS5 footage and release date
The extended presentation was captured entirely in-game on PlayStation 5. Rockstar showcased detailed character models, hair, clothing, vehicle interiors, water, vegetation, lighting and crowds.
However, the presentation does not provide a complete performance breakdown. Resolution, frame-rate modes and other technical details have not been fully confirmed.
GTA Online also remains largely unanswered. The latest presentation focuses primarily on the single-player experience and does not provide comprehensive details about multiplayer features, progression or monetisation.
Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to release on November 19, 2026. The currently confirmed platforms are PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.
Rockstar has not announced a PC version so far.
With its latest extended look, GTA 6 appears to be positioning Leonida as more than a backdrop for Jason and Lucia’s criminal story. From robberies and police chases to water activities, nightlife and everyday interactions, Rockstar is building a world designed to remain engaging even when players are away from the next story mission.
