Bengaluru, Sept. 4: The Karnataka Cabinet has decided to convene a three day special Assembly session from September 21 to discuss the Kasturirangan report and drought situation.
Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara announced the decision after the Cabinet meeting at Vidhana Soudha on Thursday.
The Cabinet also approved the creation of a new department for Global Investment and Overseas Affairs. The department will focus on foreign investments, international partnerships and the concerns of Non Resident Indians.

Parameshwara said the department would coordinate foreign delegations and help investors connect with the Chief Minister and relevant government departments.
He said some investors had moved elsewhere after failing to receive timely responses to their proposals. The new department aims to address such concerns and improve investment facilitation.
The initiative will also cover global research, innovation, cultural exchanges, sports diplomacy, sister city partnerships, healthcare and medical tourism.
A State Facilitation Council will be formed with Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar as Chairman and Parameshwara as Vice Chairman.
The Cabinet also withdrew its earlier decision to dismiss Superintending Engineer B. Padmanabha from government service.
It gave in principle approval for Karnataka to participate in the Centre’s revised RCS UDAN 6.0 scheme. The Cabinet also approved an MoU and measures to improve air connectivity between Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities.
The state will continue its guarantee for a Rs 2,000 crore loan to the Karnataka State Cooperative Agriculture and Rural Development Bank through NABARD.
The Cabinet approved Rs 61 crore for development works in rehabilitation villages under the Kabini and Taraka reservoir projects.
It also cleared a Rs 115 crore project to fill 137 lakes in Byadgi and Hanagal taluks. Another Rs 56 crore project will lift water from the Bori River in Kalaburagi and fill 12 lakes.
The September 21 Assembly session is expected to focus on the Kasturirangan report and drought conditions.
The Kasturirangan report proposes declaring ecologically sensitive areas in the Western Ghats. It also recommends restrictions on mining, quarrying and certain large infrastructure projects.
Karnataka has opposed several recommendations, citing concerns over farmers, livelihoods and development in Western Ghats districts.
