Internet/Hyderabad, Sept 8 (Maxim News): A huge gold smuggling case has come to light in Mumbai. The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence investigation has revealed that some people related to China are illegally moving gold under the guise of legitimate commercial imports.
When the Mumbai Zonal Unit officials inspected a consignment that arrived at the Mumbai Air Cargo Complex from Hong Kong, 691.870 grams of 24-carat gold, which was very cleverly hidden in a treadmill motor, was discovered. The officials estimated its value at around Rs. 1.10 crore.
In this case, a Chinese national and another person running an import company were arrested under the Customs Act-1962. After the seizure of the gold, DRI officials conducted rapid follow-up searches in Mumbai, Chennai, Tiruvallur and Chengalpattu areas. (Maxim News)
