Hyderabad, Sept. 11: Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank President (AIIB) Zou Jiayi arrived in New Delhi on Friday to attend the 18th BRICS Summit.
The Ministry of External Affairs welcomed Jiayi and said her visit would strengthen cooperation on sustainable development.
The ministry also said the visit could expand opportunities for emerging economies.
BRICS Summit Brings Global Leaders to Delhi
India, the 2026 BRICS chair, will host the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi on September 12 and 13.
Leaders from BRICS member and partner countries will attend the summit.
The discussions will focus on intra BRICS cooperation and global and regional issues.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said leaders from around the world would gather in New Delhi.
He expressed confidence that the summit would lead to meaningful discussions focused on global welfare.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in New Delhi for the summit.
Union Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh received Putin at the airport.
Putin is also scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Modi.
The MEA said India and Russia share longstanding ties based on a special and privileged strategic partnership.
Putin’s visit follows his meeting with Modi on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Bishkek.
During that meeting, Modi urged Putin to move from an “endless war” towards the “end of war” over the Russia Ukraine conflict.
