Hyderabad, Sept. 15: Hyderabad Police have warned devotees against immersing Plaster of Paris (PoP) Ganesh idols in Hussain Sagar.
Police and GHMC officials have installed awareness boards and flex banners across the city.
The banners cite Telangana High Court orders restricting PoP idol immersion in Hyderabad water bodies.
They also warn organisers against conducting immersion activities on the Tank Bund side.
The directions follow the Telangana High Court’s 2023 orders on Ganesh idol immersion.
The court had directed authorities to prevent PoP idols from being immersed in Hussain Sagar and other city water bodies.
It also directed officials to avoid heavy cranes and immersion activities on Upper Tank Bund.
PoP Ganesh Idol Immersion Restrictions Strengthened
The restrictions aim to reduce pollution and protect Hyderabad’s water bodies.
Meanwhile, civic authorities are expanding immersion arrangements along the Necklace Road shoreline.
More platforms and cranes are being installed on this side of Hussain Sagar.
The arrangements aim to direct the centralised immersion procession towards Necklace Road.
Authorities also want to prevent idols from being taken to Upper Tank Bund.
Police have urged Ganesh festival organisers to use eco friendly idols.
They have also asked organisers and devotees to follow court orders and immersion guidelines.
Civic authorities and police are expected to monitor immersion points during the festival.
Officials will take action to prevent violations of the restrictions.
The issue has remained under legal scrutiny for several years.
In 2021, the Supreme Court allowed PoP idol immersion in Hussain Sagar as a one time exception.
However, the Telangana High Court reiterated restrictions on PoP immersion in 2023.
