Saudi Arabia, Sept. 15: Saudi authorities issued a brief hostile aerial attack alert for Makkah on Tuesday, September 15.
The Saudi Civil Defence warned residents about possible danger through the National Early Warning Platform.
It marked the first such alert sent to the holy city through the platform.
Authorities also issued alerts for Jeddah and Taif governorates. They advised residents to move indoors and stay away from windows and doors.
The Civil Defence later announced that the danger had passed in all affected areas within minutes.
Authorities asked residents to continue following safety instructions. They also advised people to avoid gatherings and filming during the alert.
Residents were told to call 911 during emergencies.
Saudi Air Attack Alerts Issued Amid Rising Regional Tensions
A similar warning was issued earlier for Jeddah, Taif, Abha, Jazan, Al Ula and Yanbu.
Residents were advised to remain indoors and avoid open areas, windows, glass, balconies and rooftops.
People outside were instructed to enter the nearest building or take shelter behind a solid barrier.
The alerts came amid rising tensions involving Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Houthi movement.
The latest escalation follows several reported attacks and military operations across the region.
On September 12, a projectile launched by the Houthis reportedly landed in Saudi Arabia’s Jazan region.
Saudi Civil Defence said the incident injured two people and damaged a mosque, buildings and vehicles.
On September 14, the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen said Houthi forces attacked targets in Khamis Mushait, Abha and Taif.
Coalition spokesperson Major General Turki Al Maliki said 13 civilians suffered minor to moderate injuries.
He also said seven residential homes and two vehicles were damaged.
The coalition said the attacks involved ballistic missiles and drones.
Saudi Arabia has vowed to respond firmly to further attacks.
The Houthis have also claimed that Saudi warplanes carried out hundreds of air raids in Yemen.
The wider conflict has also affected strategic areas around the Red Sea.
Recent developments have increased concerns over security along the Bab al Mandeb shipping route.
