Hyderabad, Sept. 16: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy said history would not forgive some Opposition leaders for their conduct.
Speaking in the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday, Reddy criticised the BRS over protests during the ongoing session.
He accused the Opposition of attempting to disrupt House proceedings and divert attention from issues concerning the government.
The Chief Minister said several matters, including alleged irregularities involving government lands, fee reimbursement and drought, should be discussed in the House.
He also referred to alleged occult rituals performed by some people in connection with recent political developments.
Revanth Reddy Defends Speaker’s Authority
Reddy said members should respect the Speaker and follow the rules governing the Assembly.
He said the Speaker protects the rights of all members and has the authority to regulate proceedings.
Reddy also defended restrictions imposed on BRS legislators during protests outside the Assembly.
BRS legislators were stopped from entering the Assembly while wearing black T shirts carrying protest slogans. Police later detained several leaders.
Reddy said the restrictions followed rules framed for the Telangana Legislative Assembly.
He contrasted the Assembly rules with Parliament, where he said similar restrictions had not been imposed.
The Chief Minister also referred to criticism of police action during the protests.
The BRS has alleged that police manhandled some of its legislators during the confrontation outside the Assembly.
Reddy said Opposition leaders were allowed into the House after indicating that they would apologise to the Speaker and participate in discussions.
However, he said the Speaker later suspended BRS members after they continued their protests.
The Telangana Assembly had suspended BRS legislators for the remainder of the session following repeated protests inside the House.
Reddy said the Opposition had failed to use the Assembly to discuss public issues.
He also highlighted the Congress government’s stated focus on protecting the self respect of women.
Reddy said the government aims to create economic opportunities for women and make one crore women millionaires.
