Hyderabad, Sept. 16: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s former schoolmate Asgar Ali Vora has received relief in a long running land dispute in Maharashtra.
BJP MLA Narendra Mehta said he would relinquish possession of the disputed land in Mira Bhayander.
Mehta also said he would surrender the construction permission granted for the site.
Vora, 81, studied with Modi at BN School in Vadnagar, Gujarat.
He met Modi on September 8 and sought intervention in the land dispute. Vora also sought a Central Bureau of Investigation probe.
Vora had purchased around 2,810 square metres of land in Navghar, Bhayander East, through a registered agreement in 1989.
He alleged that the property was encroached upon in 2011. He also alleged that forged documents were used to divide the land between Swayam Builders and Seven Eleven Constructions.
Bhayander Land Dispute Moves Towards Settlement
The dispute had continued for several years, with an FIR registered in 2015. The matter was also pending before a court.
After Vora’s meeting with Modi, Maharashtra government officials took up the matter for review.
A meeting was held at Mantralaya under Chief Minister’s Principal Secretary Shrikar Pardeshi.
Vora, Mehta, Mira Bhayander Municipal Commissioner Radha Binod Sharma and Town Planner Purushottam Shinde attended the meeting.
During the meeting, Mehta informed the town planning department that he was giving up possession of the disputed land.
He also agreed to surrender the construction permission issued for the site. Reports said a police complaint against Vora was also being withdrawn.
However, reports have not established that Modi personally directed the settlement. The developments followed Vora’s meeting with the Prime Minister and subsequent administrative action.
