Hyderabad, Sept. 16: Six students drowned during Ganesh idol immersion at Nereducheruvu in Sangareddy district on Wednesday.
The incident occurred at Nereducheruvu in Pedda Kanjerla village of Indresham mandal.
Ganesh festivities had been held for three days at the village by Shireesha Charitable Trust.
The deceased students were studying at an institution run by the trust, according to reports.
The students took part in the idol immersion programme on Wednesday.
Six Students Drown During Ganesh Immersion
During the immersion, some students entered the water but could not swim.
According to reports, the students tried to rescue one another after getting into difficulty.
However, six students drowned during the incident.
Local residents launched rescue efforts after noticing the students in the water.
Despite the efforts, the students could not be saved. The deceased were reportedly studying in Classes 8, 9 and 10.
Police reached the spot after receiving information about the incident. They inspected the scene and began the required procedures.
The bodies were shifted to a local hospital for further procedures.
