Hyderabad, Sept. 17: BRS leader T Harish Rao has filed a criminal defamation case against TPCC president B Mahesh Kumar Goud and Congress MLC Addanki Dayakar.
Harish Rao approached the Special Judicial First Class Magistrate Court for elected representatives at Nampally on Thursday.
The case relates to allegations that he performed occult rituals to prevent rainfall and cause drought in Telangana.
Harish Rao has rejected the allegations and described them as false and defamatory.
Harish Rao Seeks Action Over Occult Claims
Harish Rao had earlier issued legal notices to Mahesh Kumar Goud and Addanki Dayakar.
He demanded that they withdraw the allegations and issue public apologies.
According to reports, the leaders did not withdraw their remarks or offer the requested apologies. Rao then approached the court.
The allegations followed Harish Rao’s visit to the Kollur Mookambika Devi Temple in Karnataka with his family.
In his complaint, Rao said the purpose of his temple visit was deliberately distorted.
He alleged that the remarks were aimed at damaging his personal and political reputation.
Mahesh Kumar Goud had earlier maintained that he stood by his remarks regarding Harish Rao’s temple visits.
Harish Rao is expected to appear before the court and record his statement as part of the proceedings.
The case adds to the ongoing political dispute between the BRS and Congress in Telangana.
