New Delhi, Sept. 28: The Supreme Court has upheld Telangana’s four year education requirement for local reservation in MBBS admissions, dismissing a petition challenging the rule.
A bench headed by Justice P S Narasimha rejected Ankita’s petition challenging the state government’s decision. The petitioner had argued that the requirement was arbitrary.
Supreme Court Reaffirms Telangana Local Reservation Rule
The court reiterated that local reservation in Telangana must follow the applicable Presidential Order. It held that students must meet the prescribed four year education requirement to qualify for the local quota.
Under the rule, students must have studied in Telangana for four consecutive years immediately preceding the qualifying examination for MBBS admissions.
The ruling upholds the state government’s provision and reaffirms the requirement for students seeking local reservation in medical admissions.
The decision settles the challenge raised by Ankita against the four year eligibility condition.
