India vs West Indies 2nd ODI | Guwahati: India produced a stunning batting display to chase down 406 against the West Indies in the second ODI in Guwahati.
Captain Shubman Gill smashed an unbeaten 223 off 133 balls as India reached 406/2 in 43.3 overs. The eight-wicket victory gave India an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
Gill reached his double century from just 117 balls, breaking Ishan Kishan’s previous record of 126 balls for the fastest ODI double century. His innings featured 26 fours and eight sixes.
The knock also made Gill only the second batter after Rohit Sharma to score multiple double centuries in ODI cricket. He had previously scored 208 against New Zealand in 2023.
Rohit Sharma also played a key role in the historic chase. The opener scored 101 off 75 balls and crossed the 12,000-run mark in ODI cricket during his innings.

Rohit and Gill put together a 255-run opening partnership before Rohit was dismissed. Virat Kohli then contributed 29 runs, while Ruturaj Gaikwad remained unbeaten on 31 as India completed the chase with 39 balls to spare.
Earlier, the West Indies posted 405/7 after being asked to bat. John Campbell scored 101 off 68 balls, while captain Shai Hope made 104.
Amir Jangoo provided further momentum with an unbeaten 114 off 77 balls. The three centuries helped the West Indies register their highest ODI total against India.
India’s chase was the second successful pursuit of a target of 400 or more in men’s ODI cricket. It also became India’s highest successful chase in the format, surpassing the previous mark of 362/1 against Australia in Jaipur in 2013.
With the series already secured 2-0, India and the West Indies will meet in the third ODI on October 3.
