Secunderabad Railway Station | Hyderabad, Oct 1: The historic Secunderabad Railway Station is undergoing a major transformation with airport-style facilities as part of a ₹720-crore redevelopment project.
The South Central Railway’s key passenger hub is being rebuilt with modern terminals, a spacious roof plaza, improved parking and multimodal connectivity. The redevelopment is being carried out in phases to minimise inconvenience to passengers.
The project is designed to handle the station’s heavy passenger traffic while improving movement between railway platforms, Metro stations and city bus services. The station caters to around 1.5 lakh passengers and 180 trains daily, according to railway officials.
Secunderabad Railway Station | Terminals, Sky Concourse and Parking Take Shape
The redevelopment includes new terminal buildings on the northern and southern sides. The terminal structures are planned with multiple floors and will accommodate passenger facilities, ticketing areas, waiting spaces and other amenities.
A major feature of the project is the double-level sky concourse or roof plaza. It is designed to bring passenger amenities, retail outlets and food facilities together while helping reduce congestion at the platforms.
Passengers will be able to use escalators, lifts and dedicated walkways to reach their respective platforms. The project also includes wide walkways and travelators to improve movement between different sections of the station.
Parking infrastructure is another key component. A multi-level car parking facility is being developed on the northern side, while basement parking is planned on the southern side. The arrangements are intended to regulate vehicle movement and address the long-standing parking pressure around the station.
The redevelopment also aims to improve connectivity with the surrounding transport network. Walkways and skywalks are being developed to provide easier access between the railway station, Metro facilities and nearby bus services.
Modern and Sustainable Infrastructure

The redesigned station is also planned with modern infrastructure and passenger-friendly facilities. The project includes improved accessibility, upgraded circulation areas and enhanced passenger amenities.
Sustainable features have also been incorporated into the redevelopment plan, including solar power generation, rainwater conservation and wastewater treatment systems.
Railway authorities have been executing the project in phases while keeping passenger operations running. Recent reports said the project had reached around 65% progress by June 2026.
Once completed, the redeveloped Secunderabad Railway Station is expected to provide a significantly upgraded passenger experience while serving as a major multimodal transport hub in Hyderabad.
