Namoththunam Jain Prayer Brings 1,200 Couples Together In Hyderabad

Hyderabad, Oct. 5: Around 1,200 couples participated in a Jain prayer programme, Namoththunam, at Imperial Gardens in Secunderabad on Sunday morning.

More than 3,000 devotees from Hyderabad and neighbouring towns, cities and states attended the programme, according to event organisers. The prayer was organised under the guidance of Jain monk 1008 Pujya Acharya Sri Gyanchandra Ji Marasab Sahib.

The Shri Vardhaman Sthanakvasi Jain Shravak Sangh, Greater Hyderabad, Kachiguda, organised the programme. Manoj Kothari, Prachar Manthri, issued the details in a press note.

Namoththunam Focuses on Self Reflection

Organisers described Namoththunam as a prayer focused on recognising spiritual qualities and developing them in daily life. Participants highlighted humility, patience, compassion, discipline and self control.

Annraj Bafna, President, and Pavan Katariya, Mahamanthri, said the prayer encourages devotees to focus on what they can learn and become rather than what they can receive.

Dr. Archana Ranka, a gynaecologist and participant, said the programme encouraged self reflection and personal improvement. Other participants said the message could also have relevance beyond the Jain community.

Suresh Sisodiya, Chief Convenor, and Ashok Tated, Chief Convener of Chaturmas, said people should understand which qualities make their role models worthy of admiration.

Trishla, a 24 year old newly married participant, said the prayer felt calming and gave her a sense of spiritual closeness.

Lalita, a homemaker from Jalgaon, Maharashtra, attended along with around 90 other women. She described the experience by saying, “Bhakti mein shakti hai.”

IT professionals Prateek Jain and Raksha Jain said Namoththunam offered them a different perspective on prayer. They said it encouraged them to develop the qualities they admire in others.

Participants from Jalgaon and Bengaluru also highlighted humility, self control, patience, compassion, discipline, contentment, detachment and self reflection as key learnings from the programme.

The gathering of around 1,200 couples combined collective prayer with reflection on personal values and character development.
