Hyderabad, Oct. 6: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) has warned consumers against cyber fraudsters posing as water board representatives.
HMWSSB Managing Director K. Ashok Reddy said fraudsters may contact consumers over water bill updates, pending dues or threats of service disconnection.
He advised consumers not to respond to calls, SMS or WhatsApp messages from unknown persons asking them to download links or APK files.

Ashok Reddy urged consumers not to install apps at the request of unknown callers or allow screen sharing and remote access to their devices.

Consumers should also never share one time passwords, UPI PINs, debit or credit card details, CVV numbers or passwords.
He advised people to use only authorised HMWSSB channels to pay water bills or check billing information. Consumers should verify suspicious messages through official sources before taking any action.
Those who notice suspicious transactions should immediately contact their bank and secure their account or card. They should also report the incident to cybercrime authorities and preserve messages, phone numbers, links and transaction details.
