Hyderabad, Oct. 7: The Apple iPhone 18 Pro Max and Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra are competing for attention in the premium smartphone market. Both offer flagship performance, advanced cameras and AI features, but they take different approaches to photography, productivity and everyday use.
Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro Max focuses on its A20 Pro processor, camera controls, video capabilities and Apple Intelligence. Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Ultra offers a 200MP main camera, a versatile zoom system, S Pen support and Android customisation.
iPhone 18 Pro Max vs Galaxy S26 Ultra: Key Differences
Display and Design
Both smartphones feature large 6.9-inch displays with refresh rates of up to 120Hz. Apple uses a Super Retina XDR OLED panel, while Samsung offers a Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with QHD+ resolution.
The Galaxy S26 Ultra is also lighter, weighing around 214 grams compared with approximately 231 grams for the iPhone 18 Pro Max. However, both phones are large devices designed for users who prefer expansive screens.
Performance and Software
The iPhone 18 Pro Max runs on Apple’s A20 Pro chip, built using a 2-nanometre process. It runs iOS 27 and integrates Apple Intelligence features with Apple’s hardware and software.
Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Ultra uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor and runs Android 16 with One UI. It also supports Galaxy AI features and offers 12GB or 16GB of RAM, depending on the storage variant.
The better choice depends partly on the operating system users prefer. iPhone users benefit from integration with Apple devices, while Samsung offers greater Android customisation.
Camera Comparison
The iPhone 18 Pro Max features three 48MP rear cameras: a main camera with variable aperture, an ultra-wide camera and a telephoto camera. Its camera controls offer greater flexibility over exposure, focus and other settings.
The Galaxy S26 Ultra features a 200MP main camera, a 50MP ultra-wide camera, a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom and a 50MP periscope telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom.
Samsung’s multiple zoom lenses provide greater flexibility for distant subjects. Apple focuses on image processing, video recording and manual camera controls. The best results will depend on the shooting conditions and the type of photography users prefer.
Battery and Charging
Apple rates the iPhone 18 Pro Max for up to 45 hours of video playback. It supports 45W wired charging, with Apple stating that the phone can reach 50% charge in around 15 minutes under suitable conditions.
Samsung equips the Galaxy S26 Ultra with a 5,000mAh battery and supports 60W wired charging. Battery capacity alone does not determine real-world endurance, as software optimisation, display settings and usage also matter.
Storage, AI and Productivity
The iPhone 18 Pro Max offers storage options up to 2TB. Samsung provides 256GB, 512GB and 1TB configurations, with RAM varying by model.
Samsung has a clear advantage for stylus-based productivity because the Galaxy S26 Ultra includes S Pen support. Users can write notes, draw and work directly on the display. Apple does not offer an equivalent built-in stylus on the iPhone.
Both phones also emphasise AI features. Apple Intelligence integrates with iOS, while Galaxy AI works within Samsung’s Android-based ecosystem.
Price in India
The Galaxy S26 Ultra launched with a starting price of around ₹1.4 lakh in India, although current official listings and offers can change the final price. The iPhone 18 Pro Max is positioned higher, with the 512GB variant reported at approximately ₹2,04,900.
Buyers should check current prices, storage variants and exchange offers before making a purchase.
Which Phone Should You Buy?
The iPhone 18 Pro Max is a strong choice for users who prioritise iOS, Apple ecosystem integration, video creation and camera controls.
The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra is better suited to users who want versatile zoom photography, an S Pen, Android customisation and faster listed wired charging.
Neither phone is the best choice for everyone. The decision ultimately depends on budget, preferred operating system and the features that matter most in daily use.
