TGSRTC Union Elections | Hyderabad, Oct 10 (Maxim News): The Employees’ Union (EU)-led alliance of Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) workers’ unions has reportedly secured a decisive victory in the state-level recognised union elections, according to preliminary information, strengthening its position within the corporation.
The polling process, held on Friday after a prolonged gap, concluded peacefully. While the alliance under the RTC Workers’ Unions Joint Action Committee (JAC) appears to have won a clear majority at the state level, uncertainty remains over which unions secured recognition in individual regions and non-operating units.
Preliminary reports suggest that the Telangana Mazdoor Union (TMU) is leading in three regions, while the Telangana Workers’ Union (TWU) is reportedly ahead in five or six regions. However, official region-wise figures are yet to be released. Election officials are expected to announce the final results on October 17.
TGSRTC Union Elections | Ruling Congress Faces Setback
The reported victory of the EU-led alliance is being viewed as a setback for the ruling Congress party, which openly backed the Telangana Workers’ Union represented by Ashwathama Reddy and Mogulla Rajireddy.

The party appointed former mayor Bonthu Rammohan as its election in-charge and campaigned extensively in support of the union. Despite this backing, preliminary trends indicate that RTC employees have largely favoured the traditional JAC-backed alliance.
The outcome has triggered discussion in political circles over the extent of the ruling party’s influence among RTC employees and the response of workers to the government’s support for a particular union.
Workers’ Unity Credited for Alliance Victory
The alliance comprising the Employees’ Union, Telangana Mazdoor Union and National Mazdoor Union contested the elections under the leadership of RTC Workers’ Unions JAC chairman Eduru Venkanna.
Alliance leaders believe their campaign and emphasis on workers’ unity helped secure employee support across the corporation.
National Mazdoor Union state working president Marri Narender strongly criticised the alleged government interference in the election process. He argued that the government should treat all workers’ unions equally rather than openly supporting one organisation.
Narender claimed that RTC employees had rejected what he described as the government’s partisan approach through their votes.
Regional Results Awaited
Although the EU-led alliance appears to have established a clear lead in the state-level contest, the regional recognition picture remains incomplete. The final outcome will clarify which unions have secured recognition across the corporation’s regions and non-operating units.
The official results, scheduled for October 17, are expected to provide a comprehensive picture of the unions’ performance and the extent of their support among RTC employees.
