New Delhi/ Hyderabad, Oct 10: Security was tightened across the national capital on Saturday ahead of the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) planned protest at Jantar Mantar against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Several people gathering for the demonstration were detained, including YouTuber Dhruv Rathee, who was reportedly detained from his residence in Gurugram.
The Delhi Police has not granted permission for the protest and has taken several precautionary measures to maintain law and order. The restrictions have affected public transport, road traffic and internet services in parts of the city.

The CJP condemned Rathee’s detention and demanded his immediate and unconditional release, along with that of hundreds of others it said had been detained.
The party’s legal team head, Ratna Singh, was also detained along with three other lawyers. In a video, Singh alleged that police personnel had kept her inside a car surrounded by more than 25 officers without explaining the grounds for her detention.

CJP members Abhijeet Dipke, Sourav Das and Ashutosh Ranka arrived at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport ahead of the planned demonstration.
Police have also installed spike strips in some areas as part of heightened security arrangements.
Delhi CJP Protest | Metro Stations, Trains and Internet Services Affected
Entry and exit gates at 45 Delhi Metro stations are scheduled to remain closed, including those at Rajiv Chowk, New Delhi, Central Secretariat, Patel Chowk and Kashmere Gate.
Rail services have also been disrupted. More than 250 trains from other states, along with local trains, scheduled to arrive at New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations between 4 am and 2 pm on Saturday have reportedly been cancelled.
Internet services have been suspended for 24 hours within a four-kilometre radius of the Janpath–Kartavya Path crossing, adding to the restrictions imposed ahead of the protest.

Commuters have been advised to expect traffic congestion and diversions at several major intersections, flyovers and roundabouts.
The affected locations include:
– Shankar Road Roundabout–Vande Mataram ‘T’ Point
– Dhaula Kuan Flyover and Lodhi Road Flyover
– Jhandewalan and Panchkuian roundabouts
– Mandi House Roundabout and Guru Nanak Chowk
– Minto Road and Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg
– Connaught Place Outer Circle, including the Chelmsford Road, Barakhamba Road and Parliament Street junctions
– Ashoka Road–Jantar Mantar Road Roundabout
– Tolstoy Road–Janpath Crossing
– Rail Bhawan and Patel Chowk roundabouts
– Jai Singh Road–Parliament Street and Jai Singh Road–Ashoka Road crossings
– Sardar Patel Marg–Panchsheel Marg crossing
– Areas beneath the Bhikaji Cama Place and Moti Bagh flyovers
– Ring Road–San Martin Marg junction and the MG Marg–Bhairon Road junction
– Windsor Palace Roundabout, Samrat Hotel Roundabout, Neela Gumbad Roundabout, Madrasa ‘T’ Point and RML Hospital Roundabout
Commuters have been advised to plan their journeys in advance, allow extra travel time and follow traffic police instructions.
CJP Appeals for Peaceful Demonstration
Amid the detentions and heightened security, the CJP urged its supporters to remain peaceful throughout the day.
The party asked protesters not to engage in violence, physical confrontations, threats or intimidation, regardless of any provocation. It also warned against damaging public or private property, vandalism, stone-pelting, arson or attempts to break barricades.
The CJP further urged demonstrators not to carry weapons, abuse or threaten anyone, or force their way through police barricades.
The party also asked participants to protect fellow protesters, move away from confrontations if tensions rise and help vulnerable people reach safety. It cautioned against confronting anyone suspected of provoking violence.
Protesters were advised to remain calm during interactions with police, follow lawful instructions and seek legal assistance if detained. The party also urged those detained to ask for the grounds of their detention.
The planned demonstration has prompted extensive security and transport measures across Delhi, with authorities seeking to prevent disturbances while the CJP demands accountability from the Election Commission leadership.
