New Delhi, Oct. 14: A Delhi court on Wednesday, October 14, remanded Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leaders Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das to five days of judicial custody following their alleged entry into Jantar Mantar without authorisation.
The two leaders were detained on Tuesday after allegedly crossing barricades and entering the protest site with party members. They reportedly raised slogans demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Delhi Police registered a case against them on charges that include trespassing, violating prohibitory orders, breaching a peace bond and obstructing a public servant from performing official duties. These remain allegations and have not been established as findings of guilt.
CJP Leaders’ Earlier Arrest Linked to Peace Bond
Ranka and Das had been released on October 11 by an Executive Magistrate after an earlier detention. They had signed a bond requiring them to maintain peace for one year, according to officials. Police cited the bond while taking action following the latest incident.
Ashu and Saurav have been sent to 5 days judicial custody.
Their fault? Unfurling tricolour at Jantar Mantar.
Show some guts, @narendramodi. If you’re so determined to crush dissent, have the courage to officially declare an Emergency instead of hiding behind these cowardly tactics.

The earlier detention occurred on October 10, when Delhi Police detained the two leaders and CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke after their flight landed in Delhi. The group had planned a protest demanding Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation, but police said permission had not been granted.

The latest action followed a change in Delhi’s protest arrangements. On October 11, police designated Ramlila Maidan, Burari Ground and CBD Ground as venues for demonstrations, removing Jantar Mantar from the list of authorised protest sites.
CJP members have been protesting against alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls and demanding accountability from the Election Commission. The Election Commission and the BJP have rejected allegations of politically motivated voter deletions.
.The five-day judicial custody order marks the latest development in the dispute over the party’s attempts to demonstrate at Jantar Mantar.
