Hyderabad, Oct 23 (Maxim News): Congress leaders Adluri Laxman and government whip Vemula Veeresham have hit back at BRS criticism of the Telangana government’s handling of the El Niño threat and drought conditions.
Addressing a media conference at the CLP Media Hall in Hyderabad, the leaders accused the previous BRS government of failures during the COVID-19 pandemic. They also defended the Congress government’s response to the emerging drought situation.
Minister Adluri Laxman said El Niño was a natural phenomenon affecting several parts of the world. He argued that the situation should not be used for political criticism.
Adluri, Veeresham Target KCR Over Drought Criticism
Adluri recalled losing his sister during the COVID-19 pandemic and alleged that the then BRS government had failed to respond adequately. He claimed that medicines entered the black market and that people faced shortages of basic protective equipment, including masks.
He questioned whether the previous government should be held responsible for deaths during the pandemic. He also challenged the BRS to explain its criticism of the Congress government over drought conditions.
Adluri said Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy was preparing measures to reduce the impact on people. He expressed confidence that the government would take steps to protect farmers and other affected sections.
Government whip Vemula Veeresham also criticised BRS chief K. Chandrashekar Rao. He accused the former Chief Minister of criticising the government while staying at his farmhouse.
Veeresham rejected the claim that the Congress government was responsible for the drought. He said the government had been alerting farmers about the possible impact of El Niño and was taking steps to address their concerns.
He also referred to comments made by former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy about water flows into Andhra Pradesh during the previous BRS government. Veeresham used those remarks to challenge the opposition’s criticism of the Congress government.
The exchange comes amid growing political differences over Telangana’s drought preparedness and water management. BRS leaders have accused the Congress government of failing to act despite advance warnings about El Niño.
The Congress leaders, meanwhile, maintain that the weather phenomenon is a natural challenge and have defended the government’s efforts to prepare for its possible effects. The political dispute continues as concerns grow over water availability and the impact on farmers.
