Hyderabad, Oct. 27: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has urged the Election Commission of India (ECI) to extend the graduate voter registration deadline in Telangana from November 6 to December 6. The party cited a large verification backlog, inadequate public awareness and difficulties in getting educational certificates attested.
A BRS delegation led by party deputy floor leader Talasani Srinivas Yadav submitted a representation to Telangana Chief Electoral Officer Sudarshan Reddy on Monday. The delegation sought urgent measures to ensure eligible graduates could register to vote in the Mahabubnagar-Rangareddy-Hyderabad and Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda Graduate MLC constituencies.
BRS Seeks Graduate Voter Registration Extension Amid Verification Backlog
In its representation addressed to the Chief Election Commissioner through the state Chief Electoral Officer, the BRS requested an extension of the registration deadline until December 6.

The party also called for the deployment of Booth Level Officers (BLOs) with clear targets and a statewide awareness campaign to improve graduate voter enrolment.
According to the figures cited in the representation, around 5.23 lakh Form 18 applications had been received by October 24. However, only 26,085 applications had been approved, while approximately 4.96 lakh remained pending verification.
The party said the approved applications represented just 2.52 per cent of the 10.36 lakh graduates on the 2021 electoral rolls.

The BRS argued that extending the deadline and improving verification arrangements were necessary to prevent eligible graduates from losing the opportunity to participate in the upcoming Graduate MLC elections.
