Adilabad, Nov. 4: Four ventilators worth nearly ₹30 lakh were stolen from the Respiratory Intensive Care Unit (RICU) at RIMS Adilabad on October 30. The theft took place in broad daylight but came to light only on Tuesday after officials approached the police.

A police official said nurses and other hospital staff were on duty when the theft occurred. Investigators are examining the footage to identify those responsible.
RIMS Adilabad Ventilator Theft | Campus Faces Criticism Over Security Lapse
The incident triggered criticism of RIMS authorities over security arrangements. Patients and their attendants questioned the hospital’s failure to protect costly medical equipment.
They also criticised officials for reporting the theft five days after the incident. Moreover, patients expressed concerns about the safety of their personal belongings at the medical institute.

The theft comes weeks after another tragedy at RIMS Adilabad. On September 21, an explosion at the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) led to the deaths of five infants.
Around 20 newborns were hospitalised after inhaling toxic gases and smoke. Officials attributed the incident to damaged electrical wires caused by rodents.
A massive security lapse has come to light at Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Adilabad, where thieves stole four life-saving ventilators worth lakhs from critical wards on October 30.
