Hyderabad: Two Postgraduate doctors from gynaecology and dermatology departments at Osmania Medical College (OMC) and General Hospital have tested positive for Covid-19 infection on Sunday taking the total number of medicos who have tested positive so far to four in Telangana.
The gynaecology PG medico was discharging her duties at Government Maternity Hospital in Petla Burj, while the dermatology PG doctor was the primary contact of the gynaecology medico, as both were roommates in the PG hostel at Osmania Medical College campus.
On Saturday, two PG medicos including one junior doctor who was also attending to the pregnant women at Petla Bburj maternity hospital had tested positive. Health officials said that apart from the four PG medicos, an employee in the mess, located within the OMC campus has tested positive for Covid-19 infection on Saturday.
The contact tracing and quarantining of primary contacts of four PG medicos and the mess worker is being undertaken by the Hyderabad district surveillance teams.
“We are taking all possible safety measures and have instructed our senior and junior doctors to be cautious while they physically interact with pregnant women in the hospital. We have enough supply of safety equipment at our disposal and are doing our best to follow measures at breaking transmission chains. There is also a need for the community, especially pregnant women to understand the importance of hand washing, wearing masks and taking precautionary measures,” says Superintendent, Government Maternity Hospital, Dr. Naga Mani.
