Heavy Rains predicted in three states, check full forecast here

October 04: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Sunday that isolated heavy to very heavy rains is likely to occur over sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, west Assam and Meghalaya for the next 24 hours.

As per the recent forecast, a low-pressure area lies over central parts of Bihar and adjoining areas.

“The associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 4.5 km above mean sea level. It is very likely to move east-northeastwards and become less marked during the next 48 hours” said the IMD.

Under this activity, the above-mentioned areas will receive heavy showers.

Thunderstorm, accompanied with lightning is very likely at isolated places over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Uttarakhand, Punjab, East Uttar Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh, East Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh.

The weather department had on Saturday issued orange and yellow alerts for some districts of West Bengal, including Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Jalpaiguri, predicting heavy to very heavy rains from 2 to 4 October.

Further, it said that a cyclonic circulation lies over southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Tamil Nadu, extending up to 3.1 km above mean sea level.

A trough in easterlies runs from this cyclonic circulation to the east-central Arabian Sea off the Karnataka coast. It is likely to persist during the next two to three days and will bring isolated heavy to very heavy falls in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and coastal and south interior Karnataka.

IMD issues 3-day heavy rains alert in Kerala

KOCHI: The state will get heavy to very heavy rainfall for the next three days, the India meteorological department has informed. Orange alert has been sounded for Pathanamthitta and Idukki on Monday while the rest of the state except Alappuzha and Ernakulam is on yellow alert. Similar alerts for very heavy rainfall is sounded on Tuesday for Idukki and Malappuram. Kozhikode is on orange alert on Wednesday.

Kerala coast and extends up to .1km above mean sea level. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over east central and adjoining northeast Arabian Sea during the next 48 hours.

As part of this, thunderstorms with lightning are very likely to occur at one or two places in Kerala and Lakshadweep till October 7. Squally weather (wind speed reaching 40-50kmph) is very likely over Southeast and eastcentral Arabian Sea along and off Kerala-Karnataka-Goa coasts.

On Tuesday, the wind speeds will be 45-55kmph over the region. Fishermen have been warned to stay off these waters during this period.

Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon has been active over Kerala. Heavy to very heavy rainfall was reported from many parts of the state in the 24-hour rainfall recorded on Sunday. Kozhikode recorded the highest of 12cm while Vellarikkundu (Kasaragod) got 10cm and Konni, Taliparamba, Padinjarathara Dam (Wayanad), Muvattupuzha, Mattannur and Cheruthazham (both in Kannur) received 9cm rainfall each. Karipur airport, Pattambi and Konni received 8cm each while Vellanikkara and Chalakudy, Mannarkkad,
Hosdurg and Kakkayam (Kozhikode) received 7cm of rainfall
each.

Vellanikkara recorded the highest maximum temperature of 33 degrees Celsius while Punalur recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 22 degrees Celsius.
