Nalgonda: Police bust Rythu Bandhu cheque scam

Nalgonda, Oct. 15: The police on Thursday arrested 23 persons who illegally encashed 545 cheques of Rythu Bandhu scheme worth Rs 61,50,460 in five mandals of Nalgonda district.

Two deputy Tahsildars, four Village Revenue Officers, four Village Revenue Assistants, one bank officer and 12 mediators were among the arrested person in the case. They carried out their criminal activities in Gurrampode, Gudipally, nampally, Chinthapally and Chandur mandals of the district.

Disclosing this at a media conference here, Additional Superintendent of Police Narmadha said the State government had taken up distribution of Rythu Bandhu cheques to farmers in 2018 when the scheme was launched. Some persons colluded with revenue department and bank officials and encashed the cheques of farmers who did not collect the cash due to some reasons and swindled Rs 61,50,460. They encashed 545 cheques of Rythu Bandhu that were kept with the revenue officials were not distributed due to the death of beneficiaries and mistakes in land records.

Gurrampodu Deputy Tahsildar Javed, SBI cashier in Nampally branch Ramavath Ravi nayak, Junutala VRO Syed Ahmed, Junutala VRA Vakiti Mallaiah, a ration dealer from Gurrampode Bommu Venkateshwarlu, and mediators Gundla Bixam and Mudavath Dasru, Badri Bixam, Kattaboina Vijay and Palasa Venkataiah, were involved in the crime. They illegally encashed 130 rythu bandhu cheques worth Rs 14,02,160.

In Peedda Adisherlapally mandal case, Kiran Kumar, VRA – Polkampally, Nagaiah, VRA – Bheemanapally, and mediators Gundla Bixam, Badri Bixam and D Dosantam, encashed 49 cheques of Rythu Bandhu total worth Rs 3,77,580.

In Nampally mandal, Vulupula Srinivas reddy, VRO – TP Gouraram, Atikam Satyanarayana, VRO – Nampally, Chintha Dasaratha, VRO – Thummalapally, Kore Yadagiri, VRA – Ravelli, Birudoju Bharath, and mediators – Palsa venkatesh, Ganji sanjeeva, and Varakala Srikanth, along with Periketi Ramesh of Meeseva center at Nampally, Kore Venkanna, husband of Kethepally VRA Naveena, illegally encashed 322 cheques of Rythu Bandhu worth Rs 38,06,220.

Four persons involved in the scam were arrested in Chinthapally mandal as they swindled Rs 3,84,500 of 20 rythu bandhu cheques. VRO Varakala Adla Giri and mediators – Golluri madhu and Ganji Sanjeeva, were arrested by the police in the case.

Ramavath Ravi nayak, cashier of SBI Nampally Branch, was the common accused in all five cases of illegal encashment of Rythu Bandhu cheques. The police filed cases against the accused under sections 420,409 r/w 34 IPC.
