Revanth blames CM KCR for rising farmers’ suicides Across State

Hyderabad, December 14: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President & MP A. Revanth Reddy has expressed serious concern over the rising number of farmers’ suicides across Telangana State. Blaming Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao for those suicides, he said that KCR was busy in his political and religious tours while leaving lakhs of farmers in deep distress.

Revanth Reddy, in a media statement on Tuesday, said that lakhs of farmers in Telangana were in deep distress due to the negligent attitude of both TRS Govt in the State and BJP Govt at the Centre. “Farmers are trapped in huge debts. They are unable to clear off their debts as the authorities are not buying their produce or not offering them MSP. They already exhausted all their resources to cultivate the last crop and they have no money to invest for the forthcoming crop. Finding no possible exit from the current financial crisis, many farmers have committed suicide while several others are on the verge of resorting to the extreme step,” he feared.

The TPCC Chief said that the uncertainty over procurement of paddy by the government and lack of clarity on the next crop has turned the situation from bad to worse.

Earlier in the day, Revanth Reddy took to Twitter to express serious concern over the distressing situation of farmers in Telangana. He also shared a news clipping of a leading vernacular daily which claimed that 206 farmers committed suicide in the recent past. “Besides financial distress, farmers are in a trauma-like situation as they have been left to their fate by the TRS and BJP Govts. Consequently, more than 200 farmers committed suicide in the last two-and-a-half months alone,” he said.

Stating that at least one farmer committed suicide in every eight hours in Telangana in the last two months, Revanth Reddy said that the actual number of suicides could be much higher. “CM KCR has reportedly directed the police authorties to restrain from registering the cases of farmers suicides. By suppressing the numbers, KCR has been wrongly trying to give a false impression of ‘All Is Well’ in Telangana. Relatives of farmers who committed suicide are being allegedly threatened by the local authorties and police that they will not get any benefit under ‘Rythu Bima’ if they register a case of suicide. Therefore, many suicides are being shown as death due to ‘natural causes’ and not farming,” he alleged.

Revanth Reddy said that the families of farmers who committed suicide must get Rs. 6 lakh compensation and other assistance as per the provisions of GO Ms No. 421. However, the TRS Govt has stopped the implementation of GO Ms No 421 just to supress the figures of farmers’ suicide. He demanded that the State Govt give direction to all the District Collectors to extend the financial assistance to the farmers’ families without further delay as per GO Ms No. 421.

“I appeal to all farmers not to lose hope and not to resort to any extreme step. The Congress party will fight for your rights and get justice,” he appealed.

Commenting on KCR’s tour to Tamil Nadu, Revanth Reddy said that the Chief Minister apparently believes that the sins he committed against farmers could be washed off by visiting the temples. He said KCR must increase the frequency of his visits to the temples as he needs to seek forgiveness for cheating all sections of the society, especially the farmers, on multiple occasions.

Revanth Reddy also ridiculed the reports that CM KCR could revive his plan to form a Federal Front by bringing together all like-minded parties. “KCR is not in a position to even think about the third front or a Federal Front at the national level. He is now worried about his own party’s future in Telangana. TRS is facing a huge resentment and soon there might be a big revolt within the ruling party,” he predicted while adding that TRS would be a non-entity at the national level after 2024 elections as the Congress party would gain power in Telangana in 2023 Assembly elections and then at the national level in 2024.

The TPCC Chief said that KCR’s proposed Federal Front was an idea floated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to split the anti-BJP votes. The Federal Front, if constituted, will act as a tool to damage the Congress party to divide the votes and benefit the BJP. He said all secular parties have realised that KCR was an agent of PM Modi and nobody would ever trust him. However, he said KCR, with the support of BJP’s Godi Media, might keep trying to create hype about his front at the national level.

“KCR is mixing up his religious tours with politics and political tours with religion. It is not clear whether he visited Tamil Nadu to offer prayers at temples and also pay a courtesy visit to Chief Minister M.K. Stalin. It may be possible that he wanted to meet CM Stalin directly. But since KCR has been exposed as a BJP agent, he enacted the drama of visiting temples as as to find an excuse to meet the Tamil Nadu CM on the sidelines. KCR must clarify whether his visit was political or religious,” he said. (Maxim News)
