Six other persons travelling in the vehicle escaped with injuries. Of them, the condition of three persons was serious, according to police. The injured were rushed to the government hospital in Nizamabad district.

The accident occurred around 1.30 pm when 12 people were returning home in a Qualis after offering prayers in a dargah at Nanded. The police said the deceased have been identified as Qualis driver Amir Taj, Saina Begum and two toddlers Hania Begum and Hassan, and a couple Mohammed Hussain and Tahseen Begum.

Saina Begum and two children were residents of Chaderghat while the couple was resident of Falaknuma. The police said the accident occurred when the driver, who was believed to be driving at a speed of over 120kmph, failed to control it and rammed into the stationary lorry, which was parked 1.5 metres from the highway.

Minutes after the incident, the police rushed to the spot and tried to identify the victims with the help of the Qualis registration number. When the police contacted the vehicle owner, he informed that he sold the vehicle five years ago and he could not remember the name of the person who purchased the vehicle from him.

Initially, the police also faced problems in identifying victims since their mobile phones were locked. However, they later managed to unlock the phones and contacted the victims’ family members.
