Bahadurpura flyover to be ready by March end

Hyderabad: A six-lane bidirectional flyover at Bahadurpura is fast nearing completion, with the facility expected to ease traffic chaos that have been hounding the Old City for decades.

The construction of the flyover is in the final stage, with authorities targeting to complete the much-awaited project by March 31, said the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials.

Being constructed as part of the Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP) project, the Bahadurpura flyover is being built by the GHMC at an estimated cost of Rs 69 crore. The 690-metre flyover will bring much needed relief to commuters moving in different directions via the busy Bahadurpura junction. People visiting the Nehru Zoological Park will also benefit from the flyover, officials said.

“While the laying of the foundation, ramps, crash barriers and friction slabs have been completed, some civic works are underway at a brisk pace. Once the facility is made available to people, the traffic at Bahadurpura junction will ease,” said Dattu Panth, GHMC Superintending Engineer, Projects Wing (Charminar Zone).

“On the Bahadurpura road, many travel/tourist buses and heavy vehicles including lorries are parked. Apart from this, the area has developed over the last few years increasing the traffic and footfall in the region. This flyover will ensure smooth travel, reduced commute time and decrease pollution,” officials said.

To build the flyover, 45 properties were acquired and Telangana State Southern Power Distribution utilities had to be shifted. Meanwhile, to deck up the flyover, plans are underway to develop greenery under it and also set up vertical gardens on the pillars of the structure.

This is not the lone project that is underway in Bahadurpura. Another flyover stretching over 4.048 kilometres on the Aramghar to Nehru Zoological Park stretch is also under construction. This will be the second-longest flyover in the city after the 11.6km PVNR Expressway.
