RS today: P.T. Usha to take oath as MP today

New Delhi, July 20: On Wednesday, renowned former athlete P.T. Usha will take the oath of office as a Rajya Sabha member. The Bill to alter the Weapons of Mass Destruction and their Delivery Systems (Prohibition of Unlawful Activities) Act, 2005, which was introduced by Minister of External Affairs Dr. S. Jaishankar on Tuesday, is likely to be discussed and approved by the Upper House.

The opposition is anticipated to ask for a conversation about Agnipath, the increase in prices, and other topics.

Due to opposition protests, two days of the Monsoon Session have washed away. The opposition is likely to demand that the topics be discussed again on Wednesday.

Members of the opposition have given notices to address Agnipath, the new military recruitment program, the increase in the GST, price increases, and other topics. However, notices of resistance to the business suspension were not accepted.

Usha and three other individuals were nominated by the government to the Rajya Sabha on July 6. Usha is a well-known athlete and one of India’s most recognizable athletes. She is referred to as the “Payyoli Express” and has competed in and represented her nation at a number of international athletic competitions, including the Asian Games, the Asian Championships, and the World Junior Invitational Meet.

The Public Accounts Committee’s (2022-23) findings on “Assessment of Assessees in Entertainment Sector (DT)” and “Construction and Utilization of Limited Height Subway (LHS)” will be presented by Bhubaneswar Kalita and Shakti Singh Gohil.

Pratima Bhoumik and Union Minister Nityanand Rai will also place papers pertaining to their departures on the table.
