Green Crackers | New Delhi, Nov. 2: The Supreme Court has permitted the use of certified green firecrackers in Delhi-NCR on November 7 and 8, subject to strict time and location restrictions.
The court said green crackers could be burst only between 6 am and 7 am and from 7 pm to 8 pm on the two permitted days.
The order allows the use of certified green crackers while placing restrictions to limit pollution and protect vulnerable areas.
Supreme Court Sets Restrictions on Green Crackers in Delhi
The Supreme Court directed that firecrackers must not be burst within 300 metres of hospitals, nursing homes, primary and district health centres, old-age homes and notified silence zones. These locations will be treated as no-cracker zones.

The court also directed firecracker manufacturers and traders operating in Delhi-NCR to deposit security amounts. Those found violating the conditions risk forfeiting their deposits.

Green crackers have been developed by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research–National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (CSIR-NEERI).
According to NEERI, green crackers are designed to release around 30 per cent less pollution than conventional firecrackers.
They use reduced quantities of certain chemicals, including barium and aluminium, and incorporate materials intended to suppress dust and smoke.
They are also designed to produce less noise pollution and burn with a controlled flame over a shorter period.
