Two weeks washed out in Parliament, 32 Bills still pending

New Delhi, July 31: After a confrontation with the Opposition over the issue of increased GST rates and inflation, the Centre had a list of 32 Bills that needed to be passed in Parliament during this Monsoon Session. However, after two weeks, there are fewer signs that the government will be able to finish its business.

Although the Houses were only supposed to meet for six hours each day during the Monsoon Session, the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha had already met for about 16 and 11 hours, respectively. Four Lok Sabha members and 23 Rajya Sabha members were suspended during the debate, and in the final two days of the previous week, the administration and Opposition faced off over the remarks made about the President.

In the midst of the clamor, the government approved the Family Court and Anti-Doping Bills in the Lok Sabha. Now that government sources claim they are prepared to examine the price increase problem, it is unclear that the Houses will work effectively because the Opposition is unlikely to budge. On August 5, the entire country is to protest the price increase, according to Congress.

However, the Opposition is slamming the government, alleging that it is not willing to hold a discussion and is trying to corner the opposition.

Due to the government’s apparent unwillingness to compromise, a total of 27 MPs have been suspended. In a tweet, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh stated: “It is plainly evident that Modi Sarkar is in no mood to allow the Opposition to discuss Real, URGENT concerns being faced by the people of our country in Parliament. Opposition MPs have been suspended from both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.”
