Nagpur, July 15: Nagpur City Cyber Police have registered an FIR against YouTuber and politician Manish Kashyap and three other social media influencers for allegedly spreading misleading information about E20 petrol through online videos and posts.
The case was registered following a complaint filed by BJP Social Media Cell Town President Shishir Tripathi. Besides Manish Kashyap, the FIR also names the Desi Boys NCR Instagram account, Harshit Rathi, and Anklesh Invati.
According to the complaint, a YouTube video uploaded by Manish Kashyap on July 3 allegedly contained false claims about E20 petrol and was intended to damage the image of Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari. The other influencers have also been accused of circulating similar content on social media.
Police have registered the case under Sections 356, 352 and 296 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Section 67 of the Information Technology Act. The investigation is underway.
The Central Government is promoting E20 petrol, which contains 20 percent ethanol and 80 percent petrol, to reduce crude oil imports, lower emissions, and support farmers through increased ethanol production.
However, some motorists and social media influencers have raised concerns that the fuel could affect engine performance, particularly in older vehicles. The government has maintained that E20 petrol is safe for vehicles designed and certified to use the fuel.
