Space Panel Symposium Conducted At CDM

Secunderabad, 02 Dec: A Space Symposium with national stakeholders was conducted today at the College of Defence Management, Secunderabad with officers undergoing Higher Defence Management Course & Senior Defence Management Course including 32 officers from friendly foreign countries in attendance. The key highlight of the symposium was the address by Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma, Ashok Chakra (Retd), India’s first cosmonaut to space. Representatives of ISRO, DRDO, Defence Space Agency, Service Headquarters and Civil Pioneers of India participated in the event. The first Indian cosmonaut recalled his experiences and perspective from outer space and analysed the growth trajectory in this sector. He brought out the opportunities for a bright future for entrepreneurs and threw caution to the rapid rate of change while highlighting issues of sustainable growth.

Leading professionals in the aforementioned fields shared their experiences & growth story in recent years with the initiative of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ being applied in the Space Domain. Air Vice Marshal DV Khot, AVSM, VM, Director General, Defence Space Agency gave insights on trends in military application, image analysis capabilities, space domain awareness, disruptive technologies & the roadmap for the future. Dr PV Radhadevi, Director ADRIN, highlighted the contribution of ISRO in India’s space journey, emergence of commercial players in the private industry & harnessing growth potential in this sector through collaboration. Mr Sanjay Nekkanti, CEO Dhruva Space, a Hyderabad-based company specialising in Integrated Space Operations & Command Suite & winner of the National Start-up Award, spoke on satellite constellations, space tech eco system and indigenous development in this niche segment duly signifying the push towards space operations being facilitated by the Government of India. Dr Kishore Nath, Project Director VEDA, DRDO gave a detailed account of the conceptualization & development of India’s first defence satellite launch vehicle. Forays in the field of build, launch & indigenous operation were discussed in an interactive discussion with the audience.

The Space Symposium displayed a resolve of the nation towards space prowess and delivered an immensely beneficial situational awareness to the future leaders of the Armed Forces. The symposium concluded by felicitation of panel participants by Rear Admiral Sanjay Datt, VSM, Commandant, College of Defence Management and assurances of enhanced coordination of academia, Government and military organisations and civil partners in the synergistic quest towards space knowledge exploration.
