Kolkata, May 8 (Maxim News): A new era has begun in West Bengal politics. Suvendu Adhikari will take over as the first BJP Chief Minister of the state. Suvendu Adhikari was unanimously elected at the BJP Legislature Party meeting held at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre in Kolkata today (Friday) in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Everything is ready for the oath-taking.
The oath-taking ceremony will be held at the historic Brigade Parade Grounds in Kolkata tomorrow, May 9, 2026 (Saturday) at 11:00 am. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, BJP national leaders, and Chief Ministers of several states will attend the event.
Two deputy CMs?
It seems that the BJP high command has decided to appoint two deputy chief ministers to ensure balance in governance. There is a possibility of allocating one deputy CM post to a woman leader (probably Agnimitra Pal) to give priority to women empowerment. It is reported that keeping in mind the regional balance, North Bengal and tribal areas will be given a big berth in the cabinet.
Like Vijay, Suvendu too..
Like Vijay in Tamil Nadu, Suvendu Adhikari also contested in two seats (Bhawanipur and Nandigram) in this election and achieved a landslide victory in both. Especially in Bhavanipur, he emerged as a ‘giant killer’ by defeating Mamata Banerjee with a majority of over 15,000 votes. In the 294-seat Bengal Assembly, the BJP won 207 seats and achieved a clear majority. The TMC was limited to 80 seats. The Kamala Dal will officially start its rule on Bengal soil through this program to be held tomorrow morning.
