A Temple Priest Kills His 30 Year Old Lover, Dumps Body Near Temple In Hyderabad

A 30-year-old woman who went missing in Shamshabad, on the outskirts of Hyderabad, on June 4 was found to be murdered and the police Friday arrested a temple priest in connection with the crime. After bludgeoning the woman and dumping her body in a manhole, the accused had gone to the police station to lodge a complaint about her missing.

According to the Cyberabad police, the deceased Kuruganti Apsara wanted the accused Ayyagari Sai Krishna, 36, to marry her. “While he was already married with two children, Apsara continued to be persistent and also threatened to expose their relationship of over a year if he turned her away. Apsara had recently aborted their pregnancy and forced him to leave his family and marry her. This was Sai Krishna’s motive to kill her,” the police said.

Sai Krishna, a priest at a temple in Saroor Nagar, picked up Apsara from her home on the night of June 3 and went for a drive. On the outskirts of Shamshabad, they had an argument at an isolated place and he smashed her head with a stone and then drove back to Saroor Nagar with the body and dumped it in a manhole at a deserted location near the mandal revenue officer’s (MRO) office behind the temple he worked in, the police said.

On June 5, he approached the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) police stating that he and his niece (Apsara) went to Shamshabad where he dropped her off since she was travelling to Badrachalam with her friends. Sai Krishna told the police in his complaint that Apsara did not answer calls on June 4 and the phone has been switched off the next day. Sai Krishna said he searched for her everywhere and approached the police for necessary action.

During the probe, the police examined CCTV cameras around the victim’s home in Saroornagar and near the location in Shamshabad where Sai Krishna supposedly dropped her. Finding inconsistencies in Sai Krishna’s version of the story, he was questioned.

He confessed to having murdered the woman, the police said. Post the murder, in an attempt to erase all evidence, Sai Krishna dumped two truckloads of soil on the manhole and also disposed of the victim’s bags by setting it on fire. A day later, he went back to the same spot and then covered the manhole with concrete.
