Hyderabad, April 19: Actor Prakash Raj issued a clarification after his comments on the Ramayana triggered a nationwide controversy.
He said his remarks were misrepresented by selectively quoting parts of his speech at a literary event. He denied mocking Lord Rama or hurting Hindu sentiments.
Prakash Raj stated that he respects all religions and communities. He added that some groups are branding him anti Hindu because he questions the use of religion in politics.
He said critics distorted his comments and avoided responding to his questions. He also mentioned that he would respond further after completing his current engagements.
The controversy began after his remarks about the Ramayana drew sharp criticism. During the event, he made references to Rama, Lakshmana and Ravana, which sparked backlash.
Following the remarks, Bhanu Prakash Reddy issued a defamation notice against the actor. Several groups across the country also criticised his statements.
The actor shared his clarification through a video on social media platform X. It remains to be seen whether his explanation will calm the ongoing controversy.
