Hyderabad: The organs of a 48-year-old businessman from Adilabad, who was declared brain dead after suffering a medical emergency, have given a new lease of life to four patients through the Telangana government’s Jeevandan organ donation programme.
The donor, Ponugoti Venkateshwera Rao, a small businessman from Kandukur in Adilabad district, was admitted to a private hospital in Hyderabad after he suddenly complained of dizziness, lost consciousness and collapsed at his residence on July 26.
Son donates father’s organs through Jeevandan
Despite intensive treatment in the hospital’s emergency intensive care unit, Venkateshwera Rao’s condition failed to improve. Doctors declared him brain dead on July 31 after conducting the required medical evaluations.
In a remarkable act of generosity, his son Ponugoti Rohith Krishna consented to donate his father’s organs under the Jeevandan programme.
The donated kidneys, liver and lungs were successfully allocated to patients awaiting life-saving transplants, helping four people receive a second chance at life.
Doctors and Jeevandan officials appreciated the family’s decision, saying organ donation remains one of the greatest humanitarian acts and urged more people to come forward to support the life-saving initiative.
