Ahead Of GHMC Polls, BRS To Move No-Confidence Motion Against Mayor
Hyderabad, Jan 24 (Maxim News): BRS, which had maintained its grip on GHMC in the last two elections, lost power in the last election. With the loss of BRS power in the state, the GHMC Mayor, deputy mayor, and several corporators joined the Congress party. However, as it will be four years since the GHMC elections were held by the 10th of next month, BRS is planning to move a no-confidence motion against the mayor.

Despite losing power in the state, BRS retained its hold on GHMC and won most of the MLA seats. However, Hyderabad Mayor Gadwal Vijalakshmi, Deputy Mayor Mothe Srilatha Shobhan Reddy, and several MLAs have also joined the Congress party. However, the four-year term of the GHMC council ends on February 11. With this, BRS has decided to move no-confidence in the mayor and deputy mayors. Recently, BRS working president KTR met with the leaders of Greater BRS. At this time, the issue of no-confidence came up for discussion.
To pass a no-confidence motion in the council, a majority of half a percent of the members is required. Currently, there are 196 members in the GHMC. If 50 percent support is required, this resolution requires the signatures of 98 members. If 98 people sign in favor of the resolution, it will be sent to the Hyderabad Collector. After that, a special meeting will have to be convened and approved. If the no-confidence motion is passed, the mayor and deputy mayor will have to resign immediately. There are a total of 150 wards in the GHMC. Currently, there are only 146 corporators. There are 50 ex-officio members from various parties.

Meanwhile, in GHMC, BRS has a strength of 62 members including 42 corporators, 11 MLAs, 6 MLCs, and 3 Rajya Sabha members. At the same time, AIMIM, which was an ally of BRS in the past, has 41 corporators and 10 ex-officio members. If MIM has support, there is a possibility of a no-confidence motion. However, recently, there has been a rumor that MIM has joined hands with Congress. If so, BRS’s strength is not enough for a no-confidence motion. If BJP joins hands for a no-confidence motion, BJP has a total strength of 45 members including 39 corporators and 6 ex-officio members. However, to win the no-confidence motion, BJP support is necessary in case MIM goes to Congress as rumors.
Congress has maintained close ties with MIM since coming to power. BRS believes that if MIM does not support BRS’s no-confidence motion, the nexus between the two will be exposed. At the same time, Congress believes that if BJP supports BRS’s no-confidence motion, the nexus between the two parties will be exposed. In this context, the GHMC no-confidence motion has become interesting. (Maxim News)
