Ahmednagar Name Changed To Ahilya Nagar In Maharashtra

Ahmednagar/Hyderabad, March 13 (Maxim News): The Maharashtra Government led by the Chief Minister Eknath Shinde today decided to change the name of Ahmednagar to Ahalyanagar in Maharashtra. The government has given its nod to the proposal to name Ahmednagar after the 18th century M. Naratha queen Ahalyabhai Holkar.

Maharashtra Chief Minister first proposed to change the name of Ahmednagar in may last year. The city was named Ahmednagar in the 15th century after Ahmed Nizamsha of the Nizamshahi dynasty.

And in 2022, the names of Aurangabad and Osmanabad were changed to Sambhaji Nagar and dharashiv. Aurangabad and Osmanabad were named after Mughal emperors Aurangzeb and Nizam Mir Osman Ali Khan.  (Maxim News)
